Economics graduate Elias Stiphout, BA'26, presented his honours research at the Canadian Economics Association's annual conference, sharing his work with economists, researchers, central bankers, and policymakers from across Canada.
His thesis examined how El Salvador's adoption of bitcoin as legal tender affected remittance inflows, challenging assumptions about cryptocurrency's short-term impact on international money transfers.
"Presenting my work at such a prestigious economics conference was an incredible milestone," said Stiphout.
Stiphout credited mentorship from Economics professor Dr. Fariba Solati and the opportunity to present at 番茄社区官网's Student Research and Ideas Fair for helping him develop the confidence and skills to present at the conference.

Dr. Christian Mbarga - Celebration of latest non-fiction and fiction work / oeuvre in Cameroon
Dr. Christian Mbarga was recently honoured with a conference and book launch at University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon.
The event highlighted his work and explored themes of peace, cultural diversity, and unity, drawing on his experiences living around the world and his writing. Dr. Mbarga also launched two novels at the event: Moi, albinos, je suis, which explores the issue of albinism around the world, and Écoute, voici mon histoire, a semi-autobiographical novel.

Dr. Robin Whittaker, department of English Language and Literature, has won the 2026 Saddlemyer Award for his book Alumnae Theatre Company: Nonprofessionalizing Theatre in Canada.
The book offers an essential history of North America’s oldest women-run theatre group, making a case for the importance of “nonprofessionalizing” theatre in advancing creative risk-taking in the professional domain. Beatrix Culligan, BA'26, took her honours research beyond the classroom, expanding her academic horizons and connecting with researchers from around the world at the Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society in Vancouver, BC.
Culligan presented her research alongside Psychology professor Dr. Doris Chow.

Book Launch: Bilijk: A Documentary History of Kingsclear First Nation, 1783–1950 by Professor Emerita Andrea Bear Nicholas
In this long-awaited volume, Andrea Bear Nicholas assembles Oral Traditions, archival documents, paintings, maps, and photographs to document the history of the Kingsclear First Nation community, from its establishment in the late-18th century to the disastrous mid-20th century attempt to centralize the W蓹last蓹kwey Nation at Kingsclear. These documents demonstrate the destructive impact of colonialism upon the W蓹last蓹kokewiyik, from their dispossession by Loyalists and the establishment of the Sussex Vale Indian School in the late 18th century, to the increasing restrictions on traditional life that both impoverished and oppressed them.
